Now that spring is officially here, some wonderful farmer’s markets are setting up shop and welcoming visitors from all around Smyrna. One of my personal favorites is FARM (short for the Farmers Atlanta Road Market), located at St. Benedicts Episcopal Church at the intersection of Atlanta Road and the East West Connector. The actual street address is 2160 Cooper Lake Road in Smyrna.
The unique thing about FARM is that it operates on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 7PM. It’s an open air market featuring locally grown and produced food items. FARM was started four years ago by the parishioners of St. Benedict’s with the simple mission of connecting the area’s best farmers and food producers with the people of Smyrna, Vinings, and the whole of Cobb County. Along with delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables, FARM is a great collection of friendly food growers who are happy to let you sample some of their amazing salsas or cheeses and offer recipe suggestions. Vendors also often offer a variety of items like all-natural soaps and lotions. FARM is also right next to Oakdale Park, so it can make for a fun afternoon outing with your whole family.
If you just can’t make it to FARM on Tuesdays or prefer making a farmer’s market part of your weekend routine, try the Smyrna Produce Market every Saturday starting May 5th. It’s located at the First Baptist Church parking lot adjacent to the Smyrna Market Village. The actual address is 1275 Church Street SE in Smyrna. It’s a great market that has grown in popularity every year since opening four years ago. The market opens at 8am and runs until noon, but remember to come early- the best produce goes quickly!
Keep Smyrna Beautiful is currently accepting application for prospective vendors and musicians interested in performing family-friendly music during the market. Producers of organic and naturally grown produce are given precedence and the produce or items sold at the market must be grown by the seller. Those interested in participating should contact Ann Kirk at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 770-431-2863.
